Slightly Slouchy Crochet Hat Pattern

Who doesn’t love a classic beanie?

There’s nothing better than a cozy hat on a chilly day and this hat has got it all: soft yarn, beautiful texture, and the ability to customize with color blocking and pom poms! It’s also an easy and beginner-friendly pattern with a two-round repeat (before the decreases)!

I love the almost rope-like effect the combination of half double crochets and single crochets in the back loop only give the hat! Just look at this texture:

The pattern is designed to have a slightly slouchy fit (hence the name!) and can be worn with or without a brim folded up. My favorite way to wear this hat is with a faux fur pom pom attached and a small brim flipped up. For a more classic, snug fit, consider sizing down or working with a small hook.

I highly recommend doing a test swatch to check your gauge before starting this pattern–especially if you use a different yarn or hook size! The hat has a good amount of stretch, but there’s nothing worse than getting a halfway through a pattern and realizing your project is too big/small.

Let’s jump in!

ALL:

  • To finish: with tapestry needle, whip stitch in every other st in crown and gently pull tight to close. Sew across crown a few times to reinforce and tie off. Weave in ends & (optional) attach pom pom.

And that’s it! I promise it is a cinch to work up and so fun to play with color combinations and different types of pom poms! They also look great on the puppers ha!
